Well, there are many other uses for land in addition to farming and cities, like Wilderness or a mining operation. Check out the population distribution on this map. It shows that there are two large areas of concentration, Kansas CIty and Wichita.

There are 47.2 million acres of farmland in Kansas:

As for city land, the Kansas City Kansas and suburbs take up about 200 sq.miles.
(see http://local.live.com/default.aspx?v=2&cp=38.645206~-97.088813&style=h&lvl=7&scene=1915478&vendor=yahoo&pkw=TC-1541-kansas%20map-S-0-1093)

All other cities in Kansas occupy about that much again so that's 400 sq. miles of urban land total or 256,000 acres.

Look at the state of KS for the rural to urban population AND land mass ratios. Don't rely on wikipedia for school work.
