What are some good baby brands? I'm on my second kid but that was 5 years ago...

Most of the brands out there are fine... although I would avoid the obvious low-end generics (White Cloud at Walmart, etc.). However, not all baby brands are created equal. You'll find that among clothes, brands like Circo tend to make clothes for babies who have shorter torsoes and wider frames, while Gerber and Carter's are more for longer babies with smaller frames.
Another thing: avoid spending the big bucks on a ton of cute outfits; chances are your baby will outgrow them before you get a chance to wear them more than once or twice. Invest in clothes that are easy to put on and take off and that you won't mind getting stained and well-used.
Other good brands (for non-clothes items): Avent (bottles--my son had no ear infections OR extreme gassiness and I'm pretty sure it's because of these bottles); Koala Baby (at Babies-R-Us); Graco (for sheer volume of products); Safety 1st (for baby-proofing).

All the generics (no matter what store brand is pasted on the label) are made by Wyeth Pharmaceuticals. The formulas are based on a slightly older version of either Enfamil or Similac. There is no nutritional advantage to the brand name, so if your baby is happy with the store brand, save yourself some money and use it.

you cannot go wrong with carters and they are not expensive,,, also old navy on the discount rack ,,,good quality clothes at a cheap price

My favorite is old navy and they are always doing markdowns on baby clothes so their not that expensive.
