Nigeria is a native African Country. Liberia is where we returned slaves to Africa after the civil war. The US Govt. sponsored shipping home to anyone who wanted it. They took some people to Haiti and told them it was Africa, the rest were dropped in Liberia. Which is a country within Africa descendant of the US Slave Trade. Liberia is also in a terrible cival war that is killing thousands.

1/6 of every African citizen is Nigerian. Liberia's population is only slightly above 3 million.
Liberia became a nation from... basically it was just established (July 26, 1847), while Nigeria gained independence from Great Britain (October 1, 1960).
Liberia's current President, Ellen Johnson-Sirleaf, is the first woman president in Africa.
Nigeria is a member of OPEC, Liberia is not.

Very broad question. I guess you can look at it in the same way as you would the differences between the US and Canada. Look at Climate, Economy, History. Population: while Liberia currently has about 3 million people, Nigeria has a population size equal to that of over half of West Africa put together.Don't forget the effect of the 14 year civil war in Liberia.

Liberia did not gain independence from the U.S. they declared themselves independent although they were not under colonial rule because neighboring countries like Guinea (Conakry) and Sierra Leone were literally taking their land.
Liberia is not currently undergoing civil war. The war ended in 2003 and the former president, Charles Taylor is now facing war crimes charges in the Hague.
Nigeria has oil but Liberia has diamonds which helped fuel the civil war.
Nigeria has a very large Muslim population and Liberia's Muslim population is small (compared to other religions in the country)
As someone said Madame Ellen Johnson-Sirleaf is the first elected female president in any African country. She is a United Methodist. Pres. Obasanjo is a Baptist and has been ruling Nigeria for sometime..

Well, for one, Nigeria has oil and Liberia does not. Pity that Nigeria's oil inventories are not going more towards helping the poorest majority.
