The money you are paying now is to take care of them at this point in their life If they go on to college you will end up paying child support for them longer to help pay for the schooling until they reach 21 years of age you will also have to continue medical coverage for them and if you want some money set aside for college you should set up accounts for them

Depending on what state you live in, when the child in question turns age 18 or is enrolled as a full time student at a college, university or trade school the money will be given directly to the child, without having to be routed through the mother. You can always seek a modification of your divorce/ custody pleading to make changes and or bring to the light of the court your wifes spending habits... she will have to account for all of the money that was tendered as support for the children. Contact an attorney that has experience in family law and litigation. Good Luck.

Your ex wife supports your kids! The child support is there to use as she sees fit. With the house payment, utilities, food, gas and auto expenses, clothing, school expenses, insurance and everything else, how do you say she uses the money on herself??? Do you understand what it costs to raise a child, let alone two??? The courts should leave your student loans out of it!!! You had kids with the loans, so where do you think they would come in to play!!! There are no other factors more important than money to support your kids!! If YOU want to save money for your kids then do it! You men just don't like giving your ex money even if it is your half of the children's support!!!

"The courts ignore student loan commitments" those are CHOICES that YOU made. The court doesn't care about YOUR well being they award child support based upon your INCOME not outgo. If you have to get a second job in order to meet your financial commitments that is YOUR problem not the courts nor your ex wife's. I am so sure that your ex wife isn't feeding the kids and that she doesn't purchase clothing for them. I'm also sure that she doesn't pay for housing as well as household bills to keep a roof over your children's heads. As far as saving for your kid's future educational needs, you should have started that a long time ago. Now all you can go by is what the divorce papers say.

The custodial parent has the right to spend the child support any way that he or she sees fit. Sometimes its unforunate, but thats the law. I'd suggest you open a case with your local child support office and request a modification of the support order, if it's too high, and perhaps just try approaching your ex wife with the idea of a savings account. If your money goes directly to the state for your cs payment, then she can have (a portion of) it directly deposited into a savings account.

Wow that is a tough spot to be in, I would looke at your states Child Support Enforcement website, the one where I live has a FAQ that addresses things of that nature...below is a clip from Virginia's website where I live, this may not apply in your state, but can help get you going in the right direction perhaps..
DCSE does not investigate how child support funds are used. Virginia law does not require an accounting of how child support money is spent. If DCSE becomes aware of suspected child abuse or neglect, the information is provided to the appropriate social services agency in the locality in which the child resides. The local agency then determines what action should be taken. Individuals who are aware of child abuse or child neglect should report it to the local social services agency or call the Child Abuse Hotline

nope, its Child SUPPORT, not Child TRUST FUND. and for the record, they dont look at her loans either when calculating child support.
CHILD SUPPORT CALCULATORS
http://www.divorcelawinfo.com/calculators.htm
http://www.alllaw.com/calculators/childsupport/
http://www.helpyourselfdivorce.com/child-support-calculators.html
some example of expenses:
you pay what? 400? 600? 900?
ok, lets see...
rent; 1000
electric 300
food 400-600
diapers 75-150 per month (fluctuates when baby is sick or teething)
heat 300
phone/cable 100
auto; (for doctors, dentists, take to school when they miss the bus, pick up when sick, pick up medicines, get food) 200
clothing/shoes/boots 200-400 every 2 to 3 months (seasonal and they grow)
that doesnt even include dental, doctors, glasses, daycare, hair cuts, school supplies, school lunches, school projects, class trips, class pictures, over the counter medicines, prescriptions, laundry det, dish det, cleaners, soap, shampoo, toothpaste, acne medicine, pads, bras, christmas, easter, halloween, tooth fairy, birthdays, etc. and sooo much more.
in my house, the children go through 1 gallon of milk per day. thats $3.50x30... almost $100 a month in milk.
and thats JUST MILK.
its hard on everyone; you, the ex, the kids. we all just do the best we can. the money you send, pays for food for the most part.
if you see her with something new, a friend or boyfriend usually is the one who supplies the 'extras'. if you see her eating out, those are from the gift cards given to us.
NO ONE is living large off of child support, except movie stars.
ITS NOT SEXISM, as that one person claims; if they cant add, they need to call 1-800- I CANT ADD.
doopid.

well hon, there is actually no way to get her to save the money for the kids college fund .however maybe a conversation with her would change her mind . that is doubtful however it wont hurt to try .
you may also want to check with the child support agency in your state and see if you have to pay for college. there aren't a lot of states left who make the father or missing spouse pay for college and if you aren't required to pay for college then that might be leverage for you to maybe get her save a little if not she will be regretting not putting any money back because then she will be paying.
