NOOOOO. You never want heat for an acute injury! Heat will increase circulation, and possibly swelling and pain. You want to ice an injury for up to 3 days, 20 minutes at a time, every 4-6 hours. You also should try to keep it elevated.
Are you certain you didn't break any bones in your foot? Does the top of your foot hurt when you follow the bone up? You might want to make sure, if you're not certain cause if the foot bone is broken, they'll will do some sort of cast. For a broken toe, they usually just 'buddy tape' it, taping it with thin tape to the one next to it. They never tape tight, or on the joints. That just helps to immobilize it. My husband just broke his!

tape the toe so it cant bend, not to tight. take anti inflammitorie to re duce the swelling, and some good pain medication, along with a exray, if your diabetic get to your doctor soon as possible because it can lead to serious complications.
