Why are we still in Iraq where more than half the country doesn't believe in this war in the first place? People have said it was a mistake to go in and now people in the Bush administration is saying it is a mistake to leave. i don't understand why we are still there, does it have anything to do with oil or is it terrorism? If it was oil then I could understand because the world supply is running out but I don't understand terrorism when Saddamm Hussein was no threat and had no WMD. So the question is why are we there and what is the goal and aim of the Bush administration, it has never been clear. If it is to set up a democracy in Iraq then what makes the US think that it has the right to make the rest of the world like us. It took the US a war with our home country and a civil war just to form our goverment and many wars following that. So the quesiton is why are we still in Iraq and for how long?

To be honest, I don't know why we're still in Iraq. The rational seems to be changing from week to week. It went from getting Saddam, to getting the WMDs, to fighting for peace and freedom, and back and forth. I think oil had a lot to do with it, though.

Recent polling does not support your claim of over 50% of the country does not support the mission in Iraq.

And here’s a new poll from Public Opinion Strategies. It confirms the other findings:

Question 9: I support finishing the job in Iraq, that is, keeping the troops there until the Iraqi government can maintain control and provide security for its people.

57% Agree
41% Disagree

Question 12: Victory in Iraq, that is creating a young but stable democracy and reducing the threat of terrorism at home, is no longer possible for the U.S.

53% Disagree
43% Agree

Question 15: I don’t really care about what happens in Iraq after the U.S. leaves, I just want the troops brought home.

25% Agree
74% Disagree

Sounds like the vast majority of Americans want to stabilize Iraq before we leave.

The only reason that we are over in Iraq is for the oil.
What i do not like is we are blowing the Sh#t out of Iraq and then the goverment is using tax payers money to rebuild buildings over in Iraq when they could use the money to build houses for the people that are home less here in the UNITED STATES!!!!!!!!!!

I think that Mr. Bush is just money happpppppppppppppppppppppppppyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyy.

We're still in Iraq because we're trying to get the new government on its feet and stabilized. If we pulled out and left them to their own devices, the number of innocent civilian deaths would be staggering (and don't believe the B.S. being put out by Air America -- even they have to admit that their casualty counts are "estimates" when in reality they are GROSSLY exaggerated). We also don't want to be back there in ten years, so if we help the Iraqi people now the hope is our country will foster good relations and the government there won't become anti-American because we pulled out when the Iraqi people really needed our help. Make sense?

because they've discovered the good business opportunity there. It's the oil. US has everything already but not oil. So they say, let's find an excuse to be there, "what about Osama bin Laden??"..alright then...
