Well since we (and i live in Louisiana) have been settled by not only the Spanish and the French (check out the Louisiana Purchase by the way), we have a diversified culture here. Each ethnic group brought their own cultures. Where i live is considered the Florida Parishes as it was once a part of Spanish Florida. Look up the history of Mardi Gras, etc. Our cuisine is also very different. It is a combination of French and Spanish... along with the good old southern type foods. We are considered one of the leading areas of gourmet food. Another area that we are diversified in is agriculture. We have citrus groves which were started by Catholic priests who brought the trees from Japan. We grow rice and sugar cane. Another ethnic group that is now growing in this area is Latino (especially after Katrina). and we are happy to have them here. But lets not forget the original peoples that were here..the Native Americans. I guess thay is how we ended up with gumbo..a combination of all kinds of ethnic groups..combine all that they attributed to this area..and what do you have? A beautiful place..even after Katrina.
