A unit can be what we more often call a credit hour or a credit which is earned when you pass a course that meets once a week for a semester (15 or 16 weeks) . A class that meets 3 times a week would then be worth 3 credits.

Laboratory time is calculated differently than classroom time. For lab work, you need to spend 3 hours each week to earn just one credit (if you pass the course, naturally).

Most students take courses that make up from 12 to 15 credits per semester and about half of that if he/she goes for a summer session. It takes about 60 to 66 credits to earn an Associate's Degree (about 2 years) and 120 to 130 credits for a Bachelor's Degree (4 to 41/2 years).

A unit means credit. So if you have a class that is worth three units, that means it's worth three college credits

You can contact a counselor at the school of your choice and I'm sure they can answer all of your questions. I know that UCLA has a website and that you can email them with your concerns or questions.
