They say news in future will be on the internet and that newspapers are old-fashioned and on their way out. With my daily paper I can light the fire or lay it down to train a puppy, eat fish and chips from it, roll it up and swat a fly, shred it to line the parakeet's cage or put it over my head when I want a peaceful nap. Try doing any of those things with your computer or ebook.

Many newspapers are losing customers, because of the internet. I was reading the NY times, and it said their readership is down 5% in the past 2 years. The newspaper will never go away, especially for the things, you use it for. Many folks like getting up in the morning, and sitting down at the table, with a cup of coffee, reading their newspaper..I get one paper daily, and I like to do the same things that you mentioned. Happy Reading..etc..

well here are some alternatives light the fire with a match or a lighter, they make puppy pads for a puppy and if u can't afford them dont get a puppy, they make plastic and glass plates for eating on, use a fly swatter to swat a fly, they make nesting products for birds at a pet store (or just don't have a bird) and for the nap thing that is what covers are for...there problem solved. i think it is a good idea i mean paper is made out of trees and oxygen comes from the trees. so the more paper made the less the trees and the less clean Oxygen ....everything will just be polluted! so yea sometimes you got to think about others rather then just yourself. but that is a long time away anyways so i wouldn't worry about it!

I agree...I guess we will have to start using diapers or junk mail for the pups. My morning paper is a ritual...that's just too early for DSL.
It's kind of sad. I went to the library and noticed that there weren't nearly as many people there as there used to be. I can't bear the thought of throwing books away (so yeah, my DH and I have quite a collection). The thought of everything going digital is kid of sad in a way...I'm such a geek. It's honestly depressing to think of a world without books (you know that's what it will eventually come down to - starting with the newspapers). Granted, I love the net as much as the next girl, but I'm with you - there's no way I could get the same effect with my bedtime reading. I don't want to think of dragging my laptop in bed with me. Besides, if I fall asleep mid-read, I could drop the darn thing.

Interesting that you don't mention anything that a newspaper is intended to be used for.

I shouldn't worry about it - when the time comes there won't be any trees to make the newspaper, nor will there be any life, so there certainly won't be any Internet either.
