How free are we actually? The government seems to be turning in to a dictatorship in my opinion. Bush seems to do what ever he damn well pleases when he pleases and how he pleases. We don't have the freedom to make alot of our own decisions, even personal ones. We no longer can pray in a school, you can no longer slap your childs hand for sticking it in an electric socket, you don't have freedom of speech anymore, you can get sued for everything. I don't feel freedom here, so I don't know why people claim it.

Well, we don't. At least not all of us. I don't think you will ever find "all" Americans doing anything. I think you might be generalizing a bit here. I am an American and it's not exactly my #1 topic of conversation. In fact I don't recall ever "shoving it in someones face", or feeling the need to do so. Maybe you are overreacting?
And please everybody stop saying "all Americans think this way ...... because they never travel ....or interact with the rest of the world...WW2....etc...etc..." Many countries have citizens that never travel anywhere because they cannot afford it - just as many Americans cannot. We are aware of the world around us and it's differing opinions, but it's funny how the rest of the world likes to lump all of America together and disregard our opinions if they differ from the "Americans are big dumb bullies" theory out there.

There are not many free countries you tell me how the people in Iran are free when they get coupons or vochers for how many eggs they can get a month or how much gas they can get when things are rationed and how they cannot have internet in their homes and how close they are monitored from the government, and the clothes they have to wear dogs are treated better then their women, and iraq the people were starved from the former goverment and tortured and in places it is still going on in iran and Iraq and countries that we do not even hear about so before you open your mouth get your facts straight. They are not free if you can't be free to go and do as you please. In America we can.

Nah, im American and I have never said anything about our freedom to other countries or things like that. It seems like lots of other people have said it enough. It's weird, I hear about our free country a lot but I never hear about other countries that are free. I wonder which ones they are

America and India are the world's two largest democracies; our freedom came at a great price and very often America is called upon to bail some other country out of the muck. We bailed France out twice - I wonder if in hindsight we'd ever do that again. Perhaps there is still pride in the fact that we have managed to remain free despite the political correctness and socialism that has crept into our culture by virtue of it being free and open to others. Sadly, I think our melting pot has melted and we've become so homogenized that we are at risk of being like every other quasi-free country on earth: not totally oppressed but not entirely sovereign either. The recent partisan vote in Congress re Iraq validates that point.

actually Americans are not free. They are the most enslaved
country in the world. Because of captialism they go to work
everyday for an average of 8 -10 hours and 95% of them only
control 5% of the wealth in the country. In Italy they work less and
enjoy the good life far more than Americans. So most of us are
not free we are slaves working on plantations for mega
corporations.

It sounds like we're slaves to the idea of freedom. :) Some people are like that because of all the "Proud to be an American" propaganda going on over here. I believe that every country has its pros and cons, so I don't feel the need to tell the world about mine.

Most Americans have never been to any other countries and have a very strange sense of what life is like outside the United States. Their world view is largely based on government propaganda and World War II movies.

Just how free are these "free" countries? We're not socialist like all those "free" countries out there. We were born in freedom and will die for freedom. And nobody has the right to take that away from us or hurt anybody because the others challenge our freedom.

Personally I don't think anyone in our world is truly free. Yet. Not completely. Most people tend to boast of things they do not have. Lying is all too often not considered disreputable but a device of convenience. The old addage may apply: " Ignorance is a weak mind shouting how strong it is. "
