My personal opinion is that these factors matter as much as the issues - sometimes more. No one knows what we'll face in the next term.

Try to give a list or description of such traits. I'm hoping people will get away from politics - we don't even need names! - and really be honest with themselves and us.

What are you looking for?

Thanks.

Someone who can read people and know when someone is lying or having relations with someone else. That quality would be helpful in international and domestic relations.

Someone who is down to earth and can quickly assimilate incoming information as to which should be tossed out and which needs further direction. A leader of men.

Someone who believes in his/her own religion but capable enough to not deny others this right.

Someone who knows how to run a profitable business.

First and foremost, COMMON SENSE. Add in honesty, integrity, and commitment to the American people. I'd like for us to have a President who will support and uphold our Constitution. We haven't seen that in a while. Someone who will not be a lackey to the U.N.. I want a President who will protect and defend the sovereignty of the United States of America, no matter what the rest of the anti-American world thinks about it. That includes securing our southern border against all threats (any person entering this country illegally, drug smugglers, terrorists, etc.). I do have to disagree with you on the immigration issue. Legal immigration already creates a clear path to citizenship. That path is clearly spelled out in our existing immigration laws. It may not be quick and easy as some would like, but most things worth having require effort and sacrifice. Persons caught entering this country illegally should be immediately deported (the first time they are caught) and forever denied lawful entry. That would end the illegal alien problem. Once our borders are secure, those here illegally have either left on their own or been deported, and Americans all have jobs, then legal immigration numbers (on a merit based system) could be adjusted accordingly.

Someone without a history of drug/alcohol abuse, or misconduct, such as womanizing, stooping to scandleous accusations. to gain favor. Someone with a stable family background, who is free of personal problems to concentrate on the job of president. Someone not caught up in the game of politics or money interests to have a feel for the plight of "The Masses" honest hard working Americans that are taxed for every "idea" politicians can propose.

Diplomatic

not a frivolous spender of tax $$(if he/she is going to spend it, spend on Americans)

a good firm grip on reality, and realizes that: religion and government doesn't mix, the drug wars are a failure, and that we can't just go into another country and tell them," sit down, shut up, this is how you re going to live", and expect them to be ok with that.

in favor of renewable energy, and bio-fuels.

in otherwords, probably no one that is campaigning.

personally, i think an old farmer, not one that has a million acre corporate farm, but one that has maybe 1000 acres, pinches every penny, and does have woodland acerage, just because he enjoys hunting for mushrooms, and hunting an occasional deer or turkey once in a while.
and a guy who doesn't want to spend money on pretty campaign signs.

I think the people focus too much on personality traits. To me, those things don't matter. They like the cowboy in Bush, so be it. They like to relate to their President. I don't. I want my President to be exceptional. To be better than I am and the rest of the people. I want the President to be above all of us. I don't want my next door neighbor Preisdent.

Curiosity will be a good start - actually, a thirst for information and for the full range of opinion (yes, opinion) on public policy. This includes having an interest in human civilization and history, manifested by global travel and interpersonal engagement to project the best of the United States.

Very good question, thanks.

Someone who listens to all opinions and makes educated decisions. Someone who is not hasty. Someone who is intelligent. Someone who does not have to sleep with every intern they get their hands on. Someone who makes decisions based on what is morally right rather than what their party wants them to do. Someone who is honest. Someone who cares about America AND the world.

Real morals as opposed to 'let's limit people's freedom in the name of God' morals.
Maturity.

I would like to see an intelligent president who doesn't waste our tax money on a stupid war. And he should be able to pronounce terrorist correctly.
