Many years ago, there was corporal punishment in MANY types of schools -- not just Catholic ones.
Nowadays, for a teacher to hit a kid is rare -- but it's much more likely to happen at a public school than at a Catholic one.
That's because the public schools have a difficult time getting rid of bad, abusive teachers. We can thank the powerful public-school teachers' unions for that.
This is not a problem at a Catholic school. If a teacher is bad or is hitting kids, he/she would immediately be shown the door, if not reported to the cops. And the teacher couldn't ask any union to cover their a s s.
