The above answers are correct, however if the ring has a "diamond accent" they don't have to give you a karat weight of the diamond, and there is often very little diamond actually in the jewelry.

Diamond Accents tend to be much smaller in size... if the stone was significant the description would read: Ruby and diamond ring - not Ruby ring with diamond accents.

There is really no difference, they are both still diamonds. However, a diamond accent is included in a piece to accentuate another stone (ruby, sapphire, etc.).

To be considered a "diamond accented piece", there only needs to be a speck of a stone in the piece. It's not the focal point, simply an "Accent". (As opposed to a diamond piece, where the stone IS the focal point.)
