Okay, so the radiator had a huge crack in it so we changed it. Now it is drivable and runs good except if it is stopped for too long, which is not very long. If I am going through traffic I will probably have to turn the car off to prevent it from overheating. But once I start moving again the temp drops and everything runs smoothly. Any ideas on why it only overheats at a stop? I surely appreciate any advice. Thanks!

Sounds like your cooling fans are not turning on.

First things I'd check are the Fan motors and Fan relay.

did ya put a new radiator with the same amount of flues in it?
is it the same size or did ya get a used one if you got a new one then I would say you probably would need to change the thermostat or just remove the thermostat to see if the thing gets hot without it hows yer oil does it have water in it? does it look like peanut butter busted head in that case ok if all that checks out I would look at replacing the pump I know the impeller on my 90 model sunbird was ate up

i own a repair shop and it sounds like the cooling fan isn't working any at all on it,id make sure the wires was hooked up on it,and if they are, you may have to have the fan tested to see if it works,if it does its probably a relay bad on it that's causing it not to work, these also have a temperature switch ,that goes bad and its what kicks the relay in on it,,if you got a good repair manual it will show diagrams of where these parts are located, good luck i hope this help,s.

this is quite person-friendly for the COOOING FAN swap to flow undesirable on Ford engine at around one hundred,000 miles. whilst they do, the coolant gets to warm and can soften the reservoir plastic. Then, the reservoir will leak. replace the faqn swap, the reseervoir tank (no count if this is cracked). verify the hose that runs from the radiator to the tank isn't clogged up or broken. you need to use actual Ford YELLOW coolant in this motor vehicle. reliable good fortune!!

And you can also check the thermostat as well. Which is what sends the information to the cooling system in the first place.
