I'm from the Appalachian mountains (very backwoods) in West Virginia. There is a lot of fiddle players here. If you come where I live you'll hear them. Oh..I know this to be true...do you know the difference between a fiddle and a violin? There is NO DIFFERENCE, they are the same instrument, it's how a person plays it, depending on whether it's a fiddle or violin. For someone to play it in an orchestra it would be called a violin. To play it freestyle without sheet music would be called a fiddle. Fiddle players rule!!! There is definitely an abundance of folk culture around here.
