Prince Harry has joined the army and to his credit obviously wants to perform his duties like anybody else serving.

Perhaps I am cynical, but it is good for the Royal Family's publicity machine, and come to that the Ministry of Defence publicity machine, to say that a Prince has been on active service, for instance at memorial services. It is now a generation since Prince Andrew flew a helicopter in the Falklands. The Iraq War has been so unpopular (and Afghanistan is a non-starter for sending a Prince) that it may be quite some time before there is another military engagement where a Royal Prince can make out to be one of the men involved (and let's hope so if it means peace). So if the troops are pulling out perhaps the PR people are in a hurry.

Blair is reducing the number of troops in Iraq, not pulling them all out. Why, is Prince Harry not supposed to go because he's a Prince? Believe it or not, even HE knew he might actually have to go to war when he signed up. Maybe you should watch--and hear--the entire news item when you see it.

He's only pulling out 1,500 of the 7,000 UK troops for now. Also, I remember reading the other day of the chances of Prince Harry actually being deployed are rather slim as he is such a high profile individual and symbolic of the UK.

Prince Harry can go anywhere he wants.... It is a usual thing for British Royals to station to a war zone. He is not an ordinary soldier in that his position is unique to the battlefield.

Britain isn't pulling out all of their troops. As for Prince Harry, I think he volunteered to go.

I kind of wonder if it was "Grandma's" (Elizabeth II) or "Daddy's" (Charles) influence at work here - if there was a chance that Harry was going to Iraq maybe they put some subtle pressure on their parts to Tony Blair.
