73° is still an acceptable temperature for a bala shark, as long as the temperature didn't drop too quickly. I don't believe that was the problem.

It sounds to me like probably your other bala shark attacked him and killed him. THe green mark and being bent at a right angle indicates a gash

Is there a texture to the mark? Does it seems like the scales are mottled, eaten away, missing, scarred, etc. Green is not a typical colour for scar tissue, but if he had a injury that was healing improperly, it could have caused discolouration around the wound. Is that possible?
Other than that, do you have anything green in the tank? Like gravel, a castle or other ornament... I've never heard of green paint rubbing off on fish, but you never know.
Lastly, is it under his skin or above? If it's within the skin it could parasitic or even a growth of some sort.

Also is there are a reason that you turn the heater off during the day? The water temperature should be as steady as possible - if the room is warm enough during the day the heater will just turn off on it's own. Better to have it on 24/7.

Well, two things come to mind and neither is very helpful I'm afraid. One: Could the mark have been from something in the tank? Something green of some algae that rubbed on him? Second, could it be that it's not a mark but instead something inside? It's possible his stomach ruptured and you are seeing green contents just under the skin? Just guesses because I know of no disease that would cause that.
