After all schools with variations of an Indian name were forced to change their name or face sanctions. I personally thinks it's ridiculous. I justed wanted to point out the double standard the NCAA employs

b/c there are no irish people that are angry about notre dame it is that just native americans that get angry at "racially offensive" mascots. i tend to believe that the native american based mascots are more of a tribute to the native people than an insult.

yeah it is kinda a double standard

Nah I'm Native American And I Think Its Wrong When It Comes To Us. If They Portrayed The Irish As Drunks And Sh*t I'm Pretty Sure They'd Get Offended And Start Cryin. It Aint Bout The Name Either. Like Seminoles And Stuff Like That. Its About How The Mascot At Games Act. Not All Of Us "Rain Dance", Wear Head-Dresses, And Wear Deer Skin Suits. Its Offensive To Us. Can Irish People Really Say That If Notre Dame's Mascot Walked Around With A Pint At Games, Stumblin And Acting Stupid, They Wouldnt Get Mad? If They Say They Dont Care Then Thats A Bunch Of Crap. People Just Single Us Out Cause We're Native Americans. Yea We Really Cry About, Like Irish People Wouldnt

It's because the Native Americans think their mascots are offensive, but the Irish aren't offended by theirs (Notre Dame, Boston Celtics). If all the Irish got together and demanded a change, it probably would happen. In fact, it doesn't have to be EVERYBODY. Just a few complaining loud enough will force a change. Not all Native Americans are against it, but the ones who are protesting are the only ones being heard.

If we break even with a 50/50 season it will be a good thing. There are a lot of young pups on the roster this year and we lost a lot of important players. I would love to see them do well this year, but I think it will be more of a learning and getting in the swing of things year with such a young team. Of course they could always surprise us and that would be great. There is NO easy schedule this year, what the heck is the person above me thinking? Notre Dame has never had an easy schedule and is often touted as having a hard schedule, what is the guy about me smoking?

There is a big difference. If enough Irish people found the nickname "Fighting Irish" offensive and complained I'm sure the NCAA would take similar actions. Since that is not the case there is no double standard at issue.

Many of the schools appealed the ruling and won. The Seminoles are still the Seminoles. The Utes are still the Utes. I do think they should have said ALL mascots that are about a specific group should be looked at, but really, the NCAA was just targeting ones that they thought were extra offensive.

Believe it or not, most Indians don't mind the team names. It is the NAACP and the wacko in Hollywood that started all of it. Bet if each collage with a Indian name was to pay a fee for the use of the name, you would have tribes from all over trying to sell their name.

1) to the people who said Fighting Irish isn't an indian name, please do us a favor and jump off a bridge

2) it is a double standard and I'm glad when schools get to keep their native american mascots, because many times native people say they are honored the schools would use them as an honored symbol (I believe it was the seminoles in a special i watched on this subject)

3) it just shows you that when people do complain it isn't about being offended, it's about wanting attention

Cause Irishmen, like me, Don't cry when there's a name like Fighting Irish. The Native Americans will cry if there's a name like Seminoles, or Indians.

The Fighting Irish is a term for the Catholics in Ireland who have always fought Christians. No offense though.
