A lot of people are ignorant and lazy and want to classify races into nice little boxes instead of realizing that countries are composed of individuals. For some reason the stereotype of Italians as pizza eating, mafia members who play the mandolin was made up by some ignorant person and it stayed in the overall collective imagination of a lot of people. These type of stereotypes still hold for a lot of races (they aren't true, but a lot of people think they are).

well said T W .....i live here in italy and people think everyone in the UK sits down at 3 o'clock in the afternoon and drinks tea... and the UK exists of london nothing else...
ill informed people will always form stereotypes
