Many women have a VBAC and have no complications. However, there is a small risk of uterine rupture when in labor. Because of this, some doctors won't do a VBAC at all and some doctors are wary of them.
If you want a c-section, ask for one. It is not too late. You have alreay had one so you know what you are asking for. Just be sure it is what you want. It is your decision. Remember, the most important thing is a safe delivery and a healthy baby. Make the choice that you feel is the safest for you and the baby and don't let the "natural childbirth nazis" bully you either. Natural childbirth is NOT ALWAYS the safest option. Some people are willing to take extraordinary risks becuase they beleive that "natural is always better". This is total nonsense. In "nature" it is normal for a small percentage of mothers and babies to die in childbirth. That is "natures way". Natural childbirth is a wonderful thing for most people. I'm not opposed to it at all. But some people cannot do it that way and that is OK too.

dont worry things will go fine with the advancements in cesareans the heal rate is greater than it used to be and they now allow to have the vbac if the doctor thinks things are tip top scar ruptures are rare and while sweeping the membranes sounds like inducing i think what that does is start labor since it sounds like she will be breaking your water so if you are truly worried that something will go wrong then talk to the doctor just be warned that you will still have to wait an additional 2-4 days for a cesaren since you will have to be scheduled into the hospital and that can be a few days out but its up to you just remember that cesereans take longer to heal then vaginal birthes so good luck on your choice and congrats on a new baby

First, a vbac is perfectly safe. Having your midwife sweep your membranes is NOT just like being induced. Induction includes chemical medications which force your body to start having involuntary contractions. The force of these involuntary contractions is what creates the danger of your c-section scar rupturing. Because having your membranes swept is completely naturally done, there is no danger.

I had the same fears with mine. The 1st one was an emergency C-section. I opted for a vbac with the second one and towards the end, I got real nervous reading more and more on vbac's and opted for another csection when I went into labor. I think my OB was slightly upset with me, but she let me make that choice. Call your Ob, maybe they can help you sort out your fears and if not, they can schedule you for your C-section. Good luck and congrats on the almost new baby!!

Did your dr okay the VBAC? I'd think he/she would know if your uterus was in shape for a VBAC. I was told that most emergency c-sections where VBAC is not possible was where they opened you up from bottom to top (think crotch to breasts, not hip to hip). What way were you opened up? My c-section was "emergency" but they had time to cut me open in a non-emergency way. And from what I know, stripping the membranes is one way to try for inducement and can be painful. I was induced chemically and my husband's cousin was stripped - twice - with no effect (just painful). Good luck! Hopefully you will start labor soon!

Call you doctor right away and talk to him/her about your worries. If you wait any longer it may be too late. Stripping your membranes is just one of the steps before labor. It's not like being induced at all it's just a way to tell your body that it's time. Call your doctor before your membranes are stripped.
