WalMart should be inexpensive, and will no doubt look just as nice as your classmates rings. Also, jewelry stores offer class rings that run cheaper than ordering through the school. The one in my town sells Goldlance. (www.goldlance.com). Something to keep in mind; WalMart still offers layaway in their jewelry dept, so would probably only require a small deposit to order your ring, then allow you to make payments on it.
Most places offer an alternative metal (non-gold) the often looks the same as gold and lasts as well as gold. These alternative metals are called something different everywhere you go, but trillium and lazon are a couple that are commonly found. They are MUCH cheaper than 10k or 14k and no one will ever know the difference unless you tell them!!

I bought my class ring through Walmart and it looked the same as all my freind who had bought their $500 ones. Here is a link to look at:

If you want to design your ring on line then go to jostens.com there cheap cool and great every ring is under 120.00 try it the rings are great!
