I don't think that he is being racist at all. He is just being stupid, because of he risks offending some people.
I honestly think that he only has good intentions and nothing else, but I think that saying it, would have been better than sending ot e-mails! :)

I don't think so. I think that he's just trying to be considerate to the black culture, Would you rather him say In celebration of black history month I will provide an Italian, Greek or Mexican cuisine? No, because then you would probably complain that at least your boss could provide the type of food that relate to the black culture. Just enjoy the kind gesture and leave it alone.

Blame the founders of Black History month and not your boss. Sharing black culture is a major part of Black History month and Soul Food is a staple in that culture. Is preparing and/or serving food in appreciation of a culture demeaning? Did you feel offended? I would set your concerns aside and enjoy your boss' notion of embracing the culture by eating like its sunday at grammas.

None of us no the answer to this question. Racism is all about interpretation. It is easy for us to say that it is fine and in no way racist but that does not mean that your coworkers will feel the same way.
This is the sad part. Ultimately it does not matter whether you are racist or not but how you are perceived. If you are thought of as racist there is nothing you can do to prove that you are not. So, use your best judgment, but remember that there is always someone who would love to take anything you do and make it bad. This would be a perfect opportunity.

How is that in any way shape or form racist? February is known to be Black History month and the soul food prepared is to celebrate it, not make fun of it so dont' make something out of nothing.

It sounds fine to me, regardless of the boss's race. Soul food is part of black culture. It sounds like his/her intentions were good.

It sounds fine to me. Just like spanish people have a spicy cuisine, your boss was probably just trying to provide an ethnic cuisine for your party. No harm.

I think it was nice of your boss and shouldn't be thought of as anything less. Why would that be raciest?

No I don't think it's racist at all. I would just be happy that he/she is bringing food. LOL. Black people eat soul food and everybody knows it so I don't see a problem. Same with any other food particular to a specific culture. It's not a stereotype or anything like that.
Just say thanks and grub=)

Why would it be racist? Soul food is essentially southern African American fare, maybe not the best choice but at least sorta historically accurate.
