We go to a private school in Switzerland. Anyway, my friend Jan (weird name, i know) was sticking out the finger at the tram and swearing loudly on the tram. He got suspended for it, however, he did not do it on the school grounds. Swiss kids act just as bad, they just don't speak english. when we speak english, everybody knows we're from the international school, and they don't like foreigners. anyway, because Jan was "giving the school a bad name" by acting kinda obnoxious, and he got suspended for 3 days. Is it fair to punish a student for something they did out of school? I don't think it is, nobody thinks it is, but does anybody know like, for sure, like, legally? cuz its really mean and its gonna affect his report card.

No, it's not fair. It is, however, perfectly legal and practiced fully here in the states. The local news is full of stories where teens got into fights or got into trouble with the law over the weekend and were suspended at the same time.

Hmmmm.....I'm curious as to why my response warranted 3 thumbs down. Is it because I agree the school's policies are total BS? Do you others out there believe it's the school's job to help instill values in kids, even if those values contradict the parents' views? Does anyone think the school's actions were illegal? It's difficult to determine what everyone is disagreeing with when my answer is the last one posted....

Fair? Maybe, maybe not. Was it fair that other, including children, has to be subjected to Jan's immature behavior? Is it legal? I think so, and more than likely, in Switzerland. Didn't Jan know that he could be suspended from school for actions such as these since you mentioned that other students do the same things? So, he took the risk and got caught. Now he has to pay the consequences. I guess he really should have made another choice. Let's accept the responsibility for his choices instead of condemning the school.

The school is allowed to punish you for anything; in or out of school. I know several people who (when i was going through high school) got suspended for several months because they had a house party over the weekend when their parents were gone. if you try to say it is unfair the school will say that you are a danger to have in school like you will do the same thing again but this time in school.

Deportment off-campus can get you hammered in the U.S., I assume it can in Switzerland as well.

I'd wager the he (and you) signed an agreement somewhere along the line saying that you would not be involved in such childish behavior as it could reflect on the reputation of the school.

confident I do comply with an quantity. Its very unfair somebody could have the means to disrupt 25+ human beings and forestall them from studying in a snug atmosphere. It impacts everybody elses education, and thats no longer spectacular. i think of undesirable or undesirable behaviour could have consequeces for the disruptive persons - yet i think of there maybe different subject concerns desiring to be explored with regards to those persons. They for sure have subject concerns/issues which cause them to disrupt the class throughout this variety - they might choose a million-to-a million coaching as maximum little ones who're disruptive only dont understand the lesson and lose interest. they are suffering and choose help. There is additionally different own subject concerns as to why those toddlers crave the attention they get from being disruptive... maybe an unhappy residing house existence. a number of those issues could be taken into consideration and the guy provided the help they for sure choose, which in turn might deliver the calm returned into the college room. it rather is perplexing, as instructors are very limited with what action they are able to take. i think of maximum are affraid to handle those subject concerns via private implications which gets up. they could be accused of singling out and 'finding out on' on the disruptive baby. Their father and mom might *****, or maybe sue the instructor! The education equipment seems ridiculous, via fact the faculties dont rather have the means to stick to an effectual disciplinary proceedure. maximum of proceedures might place self belief in father and mom backing them up - and regrettably it style of feels the disruptive toddlers in lots of instances have father and mom who dont rather care lots and are unwilling to help the college handle the topic concerns with their baby. that they had faster place blame onto the college and characteristic a flow on the lecturers. i think of the government could positioned extra investment into faculties so as that they've extra instructors who can artwork with 'subject toddlers' on a one-to-one foundation and maybe take each and all of the disruptive toddlers to a various classification the place the only human beings they are going to be disrupting are themselves and eachother. i've got faith even nonetheless with the extra help those toddlers could have the means to have a extra ideal education and understand all their training extra ideal, and as a result should not be as in all risk to disrupt the class. Afew months of one-to-one and that they might probable artwork as properly as all the different scholars.

Here in California the school is responsible for you until you reach your home. The suspension goes in your discipline file, it doesn't effect your grades.
