Should we or should we not have it?
Alot of people have it misunderstood. If schools would educate kids on this history all year round we not have to have a whole month.History books really don't include African Americans.
What do you think?

I do believe all races should be taught in history. We're supposed to be the melting pot.But this goes to show how our United As One Nation really is.

When you relate black history month to schools only, then I would agree with some of your answerer's. The talents of that race should be reflected in history books as a standard, the particular month should not be emphasized.
If you give a wider scope to black history, such as, business advertising, celebrations, demonstrations (good ones) and informational outlets about the who, what, when and where of the Black race, I think a month is too short.

I disagree with any "history" month. If we really want to be equal, then stop the segregation of months. Do we really need to be reminded in this day and age that there have been great blacks, mexican, women, etc in this country? No! History books do include African Americans. The only problem is the white Americans were the founding fathers of the country, and that is why they appear much more often than blacks.

If history (particularly American History) is to be taught, then all aspects of it should be taught and it should include some history of all the different races and ethnicities that have played a primary role in shaping this history of this country.
I see no more need for a black history month than a history month for any other race. History of all major players of this country should be included in the teaching of American History.

The question should be how many black figures have really contributed on a national level to our history? There aren't many. They should be noted and their achievements in the areas of religion, politics, and invention should be recognized. Having said that, some effort should be made to recognize people of other cultures who have made like achievements.
Black History month is a wonderful thing in areas which have blacks. It's a waste of money in areas which do not. Same thing with the other "history" months. The truly outstanding people should be included in history text books and not regulated to mandated government programs no one attends.
By the way, my area of the country does not have blacks because we force them out. We just can't get them to move here where it is cold and windy. They like to be warm, I guess.

I think that all history should be taught all year round, not just one month of the year.Teachers should teach about the histories of ALL people in the continent, not one group over another.

Yes I do believe that we should recognize it all year around. And we should have more apt text books but I do believe its is needed or more of along the lines wanted.

i imagine its significant because alot of it really is been left out. i'd like in some unspecified time sooner or later for it in simple terms to be recognized historic past as a replace of black historic past notwithstanding. i love getting to charm to close about all cultures.

I THINK THE "HISTORY" THEY TEACH IN SCHOOL IS BS.
THEY TECH BLACK HISTORY 1 MONTH OUT OF THE YEAR, & DONT TEACH ANYHING OF US NATIVE AMERICANS. THERE ARE MORE RACES THAN BLACK & WHITE HAT HAVE LIVED IN THIS COUNTRY FOR AGES. DID OU KNOW THAT THERE IS A SCHOOL, I BELIEVE IN DETROIT, I COULD BE MISTAKEN ON HE TOWN, BUT IT IS A SCHOOL FOR BLACKS ONLY, & THEIR MAIN FOCUS IS ON BLACK HISTORY.
OUR GOVERNMENT MAKES RACIAL ISSUES. IF I KILL ANOHER INDIAN, I JUS COMMITED MURDER. BUT IF I KILL SOMEONE OF ANOTHER RACE ITS A HATE CRIME. THEY DONT LOOK AT WHAT THE CAUSE OF THE MURDERS WERE. ONLY COLOR MATTERS TO THE GOVERNMENT. TO ME COLOR DOESNT MATTER ANY MORE THAN AN AGE MATTERS. WHY SHOULD IT??
