In an apartment, the stoves are always too close to the wall and do not have divider cabinetry. Therefore, the paint is bubbling up. It is unsighly and I fear unsafe. I plan to strip away the bubbled paint, first. I've bought a 2x2 piece of styrene (clear) to cover the wall with. I don't want ugly nails to demark my concept. However, I'm uncertain how to attach it.

DON'T DO IT!!! THE STUFF IS COMBUSTIBLE. It would be better to put up a sheet of metal, mounted on standoffs so air can circulate behind it. You could paint the metal with a heat resisting paint.
