ive just bought a 94 ford escort 1.6 16v it runs sweet but if i let the clutch out at a normal speed there is a horible bang and the engine jolts up from the front more than it should (the bang is made by the engine moving so much) i thought it was a loose engine mountain but they are all tight (the gearbox mountain is tight but there is quite a bit of movmeant from the arm that sits inside the rubber) also the front wheels shudder a bit when i get to the biting point (this stops when the cluch is fully release) ive been told that the release bearing might be stuck but i didnt think that would make the engine jump so much

i own a repair shop, and i think one thing that might be wrong with it is you may have a busted transmission mount on it and maybe a bad engine mount, and if the release bearing is going out it will shake a little but it will also make real loud squeal of noise, and you,ll know if its the bearing,i think really what you need to do is take it to a shop and have someone look at it,and see what they say about it,a hands opinion will be helpful to have on this one, they you,ll know for sure what it is, good luck,i hope this help,s.

What sounds like is happening is you have one or more motor mounts broken. While the bolts may be tight, the rubber can separate from the bracket. That is why the engine "jumps" quite a bit, from torque.

Clutch throw out bearings can seize, but will make a lot of noise, not make the engine buck like that.

Have the hood open, parking brake set good, and have someone watch while you ease out the clutch...the motor mounts that are broken should be obvious. Identify how many you have first, so you can look at each one.

The motor/transmission mounts are most likely shot and need to be replaced. The engine torques and pulls it engine off center.
Take a crow bar and gently lift up on the trans at the mount if it lifts at all the mount is gone. do the same with the engine mounts. I doubt the release bearing is seized as it would squeal like a stuck pig when you engage the clutch. Think about it. there is a lot of torque at your engine and if it is loose it will squirm around like two bobcats in a blanket...... Gezz is that a hick answer or what....

Probably because you bought an old car the first thing. Another thing is you don't know how well this car was taken care of through the years. It doesn't matter if it was a Ford or not if someone didn't ever change the oil or do the proper maintenance on it especially if this car as tons of miles on it which it probably does you are going to be having a lot of trouble with it.
