That most Americans are fat and overweight?I've never been there so I can just rely on what I keep reading here and there.
It seems funny to me since I'm used to see well shaped people in USA movies.
If yes,is it due to a bad diet or what else?

Well, there is a weight problem in America but the majority of us are not fat.

I do feel that many Americans, including me, have poor nutritional habits. Fast food restaurants are practically at every intersection and people have a tendency to eat out quite a bit, since we are very busy working and taking our kids to their sporting events or other activities. Our grocery stores are filled with so many choices that it's just overwhelming.

However, we are also very lucky to live in such a country, where we don't have to worry about famine or an unclean water supply. I'm proud to be an American but I agree that many of us need to eat a more healthy diet. Never the less, many Americans do eat healthy everyday. So, no -- most Americans are not overweight -- many are though.

By the way, I would like to lose a few pounds but I am still considered slender in any country.

Obesity is a growing epidemic in the U.S. Many more Americans are overweight than ever before. It's because of a sedentary lifestyle and an abundance of high fat food. Americans are definitely getting fatter, but so are people in many other countries throughout the world.

Most Americans are fat, especially in the middle and lower classes.

American's eat a high fat diet because most of them are poor and high-fat foods are inexpensive.

A good deal of Americans do not have phsycially demanding jobs and do not get much exercise.

Actors and actresses need to be in good physical shape as part of thier job. Watch American televison, and you will see some fatties.

TOO large a percentage of Americans ARE overweight and sorely out of shape, it is true. Some reasons are: bad diet; too large portions at meals; lack of exercise; relying mostly on cars for transportation.

This trend has been spreading to other countries as well.

Yes. It all leads to poor food or lifestyle choices, GENETICS & lack of physical fitness.
It can also lead to America being on the go so much that we opt for the quick & easy way out of things... i.e; fast food, t.v. dinners, even to-go orders from a resturant (Waffle/Huddle House or semi fast paced resturants)
Lack of water consumption can be seen as a factor, too. Opting for a sweet tasting & easy thing to drink compared to something that takes up a majority of your body & is free.
There are many ways you can look at it but it all just boils down to Genetics & food choices dealing with a persons lifestyle.

Statistics are correct. So many people in America are overweight. A lot of it is fast food and over eating. Watching tv and playing video games instead of going outside. Movie stars and models are almost always skinny and don't represent true America.

I'm not fat or overweight - but there are quite a few "Americans" that are. But it's not like EVERYONE is.

It depends on where you live I suppose as well. I live in California, where more people take care of themselves than in the middle of the country (no offence)

most americans (~70%) are overweight (Body Mass Index > 25kg/m^2) but not obese, only ~35% have a BMI >30kg/m^2.

you can check out the World Health Organisation statistics for any country at:

Yes, it is true that American and other developed countries are getting fatter. In NJ, we are trying to pay taxes, which sometimes requires three jobs, and a healthy lifestyle gets put off , and fast food takes over, but we are trying to do something about it.

Yes , only very thin women get into movies and modeling. We enjoy a good life here and the average is at least a few pounds over weight.
