It isn't "age" that should determine the validity of who has the higher position. It should be the person who has the most experience and the most potential of doing the job well. In this case, management determined it to be you and the other woman should be an adult about it and let you do your job. I have been working for the same company for 25 years and there are plenty of people who have worked a lot less but have higher positions then I do......doesn't bother me in the least. You go girl and worry about yourself, not about any other person who wants to rain on your parade!!! btw, I am 49

It would be hard for me to handle, though "jealous" might not be the right word. I would make me constantly reflect upon my life and the choices I'd made and how it could have been different and how much the world has changed, etc. It would be uncomfortable to be prompted to think about such things constantly--every time your cute, young, boss walks into the room.
But obviously this happens as you get older and it's just part of life. Gradually the brightest, smartest, strongest, most energetic people are younger and younger than you. It must be a weird experience.

I dont think that she is jealous, she would probably feel a little discouraged. You have to understand that she is probably used to being the boss and you been younger and having a little experience can be bothersome. You really dont know what happened that she started a new job where she doesnt know anything about the position. Try to help her out and teach her all you can.

No, just be happy you got the job...you can get tips from her. I am 20 and I work with a lot of people older then me but I know a lot more. I try to help them...I am taking a computer course at the college so thats why I got the job. Just take a class...it will get you a raise and you won't feel so jealous. But don't stress over it...you got hired for a reason...

No, she has been with the company longer, and has had more experience, therefore making her more qualified for the job. You should see it as you may not have as much experience, or the better of the two jobs, but you are much wiser, and have more experience with working in general... Don't be jealous, let the overseers look down on her, not you... Her job is at risk always, not yours.

I am in the position of the 20 year old. Its just as uncomfortable to be in that position, having someone who works under you be older than you. If she proves to be professional and understands what it means to be a good manager then age shouldn't be an issue. I've had employees quit because they couldn't cope with a younger woman giving them their job assignments and work instructions. FYI: don't refer to her as missy.

Well, I can see you're point. But jealousy is the wrong emotion. Maybe envy. It is a different job market and workforce out there now. At one point you were the bright eyed 20 yr old too. Show you're worth and move on, jealousy will get you nowhere.
