I have been promoted 3 times, I have played the game for 5 years, been very responsible/loyal, taken all steps necessary to work my way up the corporate ladder and because of a serious arguement with my boss 2 years ago, I feel as though I have hit a wall with my career and can not advance anymore as he no longer likes me. I have been passed up for a promotion 3 times now, a position that without a doubt should have been mine. I have all the skills, experience, etc...I am the obvious next person for the job. I have been to HR now twice to tell them my whole story and they were rude and very protecitve of my boss. It is aparent that they would just prefer to have me quit, but I refuse (as unhappy as I am here). If this is how it will end here after all of my hard work, i want unemplyment until i find another job elsewhere. Any advice on how I can get unemployment? I won't get it if I quit, and that would be too easy on them. How can I get them to lay me off?

It's time to move on without getting fired. You will have better luck securing another position if you voluntarily leave with your two week notice. Even though your boss may be a jerk, you will get a better reference if you leave. Companies are legally bound to give out certain information about an employee, they don't always abide by it! It appears you have good qualifications (other than arguing with your boss), so take those qualifications to another company that will appreciate them. I suggest you vent out loud somewhere private about this company you're currently at in order to get rid of the anger as you don't want to hold on to the anger as it will raise up its' ugly head again and you will be back in the same boat!

Of course HR is going to protect the higher ups! If you have an issue with your benefits, or want to schedule time off with pay you go to HR. If you are upset about being passed over for promotions, leave HR alone & find a headhunter to get you a new job.

There's a place where we all go to complain. We talk about our bosses, being passed over for promotions and how unfair HR has been; it's called The Bar. Go have a beer, throw some darts and unwind.

As far as your current employer financing your search for better employment, that's not going to happen. Unemployment is for wrongful termination, leaving due to sexual harrassment, when you're too sick to work, etc.

What you did was commit career suicide by having a serious argument with your bosses, and that's not grounds for an all expense paid vacation by your former employer while you look for a new job.

Since you have been with the company for so long, schedule some time off to go to interviews and be sure you have all your ducks in a row so you can make a graceful exit.

I understand that you're pissed and feel like you deserve better, but you already had the luxury of screaming at your bosses without getting fired.

Now go have a beer after work, devise a plan that entails you finding a better job and working in a little R&R as well. You're obviously stressed out and bitter, so you need to unwind before you take on that NEW job.

The Universe is telling you that it is time to move on. What wonderful opportunities are you missing by remaining in a job you hate? Some things don't feel fair in life, but why would you want to be promoted in a job you hate? The best thing to do is leave of your own accord. Then you won't have to explain to your next employers why you were fired. Believe me it looks much better to give two weeks notice no matter how much you want to recieve unemployment, it's not worth the hassle. Cut your losses, and look for employment that makes you feel happy and good about yourself!
Blessings

Sounds like you wanna be lazy for six months. What is to stop you from looking while you are still employed? Stop whining and act.
