18 years old, but alcohol consumption is 21. The reason most states say that you are an adult at age 18, is so that you can legally sign up for the military without your parents consent. This goes back to 1970, when, in the state of California, said that you cannot sign a legal document until you are over 18. A mother, whose son was drafted, said that the draft board could cot take her son, because he could not sign for himself. They won, the draft board lost. The draft board tried to pursue it, but all of a sudden, a past governor of California had a son that was draft able age, would be drafted.
Trivia question: Any body know the name of that former Governor of California? hint: it starts with an R.

There are two issues dealing with becoming adult in the laws.
One is the "age of consent" and the other "age of majority."
When talking about the age of majority you are referring to the age of emancipation. In Louisiana, the age of majority is 18.
That means you can do as you wish without any parental consent!
Best wishes.

18 is the legal adult age in any state. If you are talking about drinking alcohol, most states, I believe, say 21. If you are talking about the legal age to marry without consent or have sex, then you would have to check with your local authorities, because I couldn't tell you.
