This salvation army take donations from a furniture company (high end) and sells it to Rent Way, Primetime, and Arrons. who buys this for 50 to 100 dollars and then re-sells it in the community at high rent to own prices ex. $50 TV stand from salvation army resold in Arrons for $1100. I thought they were here to help the community, not to make these companies hurt the community?????

My mom works for a Salvation Army. They do help the communtiy, they are a non profit orginazation and they have expenses just like all businesses. They do take in donations and can sell to whoever and for whatever they want. So many people come into the store my mom works and can not understand why they charge $3 for a pair of shoes that was given to them. Her store needs to average $900 a day in sales to make payroll, utilities, rent and keep the food pantry going. Somedays they only make barely over $100 a day. The Salvation Army has to make money in order to fund all the help that they give. They give shelter to those in need, give furniture and clothing to those in need. Feed thousands, run churces, all paid for by what they make on the sales of what is donated to them. Salvation Army was also the first to render aid to Hurrican Katrina, and that cost money as well. With expenses going up, such as people are no longer donating bell ringing services, they want to be paid. So if the Salvation Army can sell items to other retailers, more power to them. They are not taking away from the community at all

The Salvation Army uses donated items to raise money for their organization's support. Their services are many (contact them for specifics.)
After they sell items, they have no control over what the buyer does with said items. If the public is being ripped off, it's the buyer who is reselling at exorbitant prices.
The person who paid $1100 for a $50 TV stand did so because he wanted to. Why blame the Salvation Army?

The Salvation Army may be a non-profit organization, but they still have bills to pay. By getting a better dollar on high-end, non-essential items, they can keep their prices lower on clothing and such. I don't see how a $1,000 tv stand is going to help a poor person as much as 200 pair of jeans....do you?

So you finally got caught this year? You'll have to go to the Salvation Army Center and get it welded off.

Once it is donated to them it becomes theirs to do with as they please, but you are learning something about how the poor Salvation Army operates. That ought to be worth something to you!!
