For the third one it is telling me to add as an Improper fraction. And I have tried to do the ones you all said but none seem to be working..guess I need to see how to get an improper fraction from what you all told me.

For number one your answer is wrong. You have 18 yards of ribbon that gets cut into 3/4 yard. Sounds like division to me. Right so we have 18/(3/4). Now, when you divide you invert the fraction and multiply so we have 18 * (4/3) which equals 72/3= 24. So the answer should be 24.

Number two is right but I get the feeling your teacher might want it in fraction form since you seem to be dealing with fractions so. 11 and a half feet is the same as 23/2. You need to divide that by 7 so (23/2)/7. So now we invert and multiply like before (23/2)*(1/7)=23/14 or 1 and 9/14.

Number three: This is addition because we just want a total of two different parts. So we just need to find a common denominator and add. So 3/4 + 7/12. Lucky for us 4 is a factor of 12. So we will change 3/4 to 9/12. I just multiplied the top and bottom of the fraction by 3. That is the same as multiplying it by one because 3/3=1. That is why it is a legal operation. So now we have 9/12+7/12. So we add across the top and get 16/12. Now we need to simplify. Both of those numbers are divisible by four so you get 4/3 or 1 and 1/3 hour. Hope that helps.

The teacher gets 24 pieces of ribbon
you divide 18 by .75 which is 3/4

Each boy will get 1 9/14 feet
first i figured all boys will get 1 foot leaving 9/2 left the get a half a foot leaving 1 foot which we split in sevenths. add them together to get the answer

1 1/3 hour
you add 3/4 and 7/12 together and get 16/12 which reduces to the answer

For the first two, draw it out: 0 __________________ 18 - and put marks in for 1-17 and then put three tiny lines inside those to make fourths. and then count. that is a visual way to do it. 61 is wrong. -

and for the 3rd question- you have to take 3/4 and make it even to 7/12 - so you would take 3/4 and multiply the 3 AND the 4 by three- you then get 9/12 - then add 9/12 plus 7/12 and then you have your answer in twelths. so you have to make it into hours. 16/12 = 1 4/12 which is 1 1/3 hours.

# 1 18 divided by 3/4 (.75) = 24
# 2 11.5 divided by 7 = 1.64 feet long to each
# 3 3/4 9/12) + 7/12 = 1.33 hours
