During the installation of XP, you will have the option of reformating the harddrive or just install over the existing operating system. If you select to reformat, you will delete everything on the C drive. However, if you have another drive attached, that drive will not be reformated or deleted.

You can use the windows installation cd to reinstall it. First you would have to open your bios. You usually do this by pressing F2 key while the computer is starting. You can find out about the key from your motherboard manual. From there you would have to find boot device priority and select you Cd/Dvd drive as the first boot device. This will allow the pc to start using files from the cd. Then start the computer again inserting the cd. You should get the instructions from then on. You can either reinstall or format the drive. Fromating will delete everything. You would have to install all programs again. There might also be options to clean out all the drives.
