What does "virtual goods" mean. Some people are stealing money from my checking acct thru paypal and saying that I bought "virtual goods" from them which is not true. Currently paypal and my bank's fraud dept. are investigating. I'm talking close to $700 for 3 trans. Is it illegal to buy a comp program and then sell the cd key to different people for money? I think that's what these guys are doing. How do I figure this out?

"Virtual goods" is another phrase for intangible assets, which includes software licenses, copyrights and even assets that only exist in cyberspace (e.g. items in MMORPGs).

To answer your question whether it is illegal to buy a computer program and sell the CD key -- yes, it is illegal for you to resell the CD key. You bought the right to have one copy for your own personal use (which is almost always covered under the licensing agreement you quickly click through) and by reselling it, you are stealing.

To figure out what this is, you need to contact the two other counter-parties (i.e. Paypal and the party drawing on the funds) to figure out what is going on.
