Welp, I went to the doctor again... Hes says that he is going to put me on clomid to "help out" my ovulation "issues" for about 3 months. Good News, sure but i'm scared.. This whole thing has been one dissapointment after the next. I'm trying very hard to keep faith that everthing will work for my husband and i but its so hard to believe that this won't just get my hopes up again just to be let down. My husband is getting very excited~ helping me take my tempature every morning and reading up on things to try to help.

My question is simply this,

Does anyone have any personalized stories regarding the perscription drug Clomid?? You know side effects, statistics, emotions, success stories, ect. I'm looking for any info i can get my hands on. Thank you sooo much!!

Are you currently charting your fertility signs? Unless you are certain you are not ovulating, I wouldn't take clomid. Even a single dose raises your risk for reproductive cancers. Clomid can also dry up the cervical fluid NECESSARY for conception and otherwise seriously disrupting your cycle.

Charting your fertility signs (such as cervical fluid and basal body temperature) can tell you a great deal about your cycle, not just when you might be ovulating. It can tell you when you are fertile (women are usually fertile for a few days before ovulation as well as the day of ovulation and the day after), when you are not, when you are ovulating, when to expect your next period, and when to suspect pregancy. Your charts can also tell you if there is an impediment to conception or carrying a pregnancy or if there is a serious problem which needs a doc's attention. Many cycle problems can be solved at home though.

Even if you decide clomid is necessary, charting can help you determine WHEN to take it and if you are having enough fertile cervical fluid (which can be boosted if you are not).

Some good sources: Fertilityfriend.com (free software as well as a pay-for version and on-line charting turorial); ovusoft.com (discussion boards for many fertility related issues, much info on fertility after the pill, and a very good software for purchase). The books Taking Charge of Your Fertility (associated w/ the the ovusoft website and software), The Art of Natural Family Planning, and Garden of Fertility

I was on clomid for 3 cycles in all but my story is different. First of all I see you are taking your temperature every morning. That is great because you will be able to know for sure if the clomid is working. If it works you will ovulate and your temps will rise. On all 3 of my clomid cycles I ovulated but don't get discouraged if you don't the first time or two. They can up your dose up to 150 mg. Anyway here is how it worked for me:

Cycle 1: November 2005-Went to doctor after trying to get pregnant for 3 1/2 years. She only did bloodwork and diagnosed me with PCOS (and annovulation from the PCOS). Took clomid 50 mg days 5-9 and ovulated on day 16. Did not get pregnant. No side effects from the clomid.

Cycle 2: December 2005-Doctor upped my dose of clomid so took clomid 100 mg days 5-9 and ovulated on day 19. Did not get pregnant. No major side effects from the clomid just slight nausea and headaches while taking it.

Cycle 3: Took a break from January 2006 until September 2006. Went to a new doctor in September 2006 and he did ultrasound (showed I had PCOS too) and fasting bloodwork, and semen analaysis on my husband and HSG on me all in September and October 2006. I took clomid 50 mg again days 7-11 so I would ovulate later (not before day 17) because I was having the HSG (where they run dye in your tubes) done on day 16 and didn't want to waste my clomid (the dye would ruin my egg if I did ovulate before I had the test done). I was charting my temperatures and I ovulated on day 19...3 days after the HSG. I found out I was pregnant 12 days past ovulation.

I suggest asking for those tests I mentioned because I really believe the HSG cleaned me out. PCOS can cause mucous build-up because you aren't regular and ovulating which means you aren't getting cleaned out so the HSG pushes all that mucous and debris out. It will also tell if you have blocked tubes, adhesions in your tubes or uterus, and other problems.

Good luck!!!!

I used Clomid. It took three cycles to get pregnant. I had a lot of side effects though. The first two cycles, i thought for shure I was pregnant. at 3dpo, I was super moody, cried for nothing, my boobs were killing me, I had nausea, you name it I had it, then my period would start and onto a new cycle. On the cycle I did get pregnant, I had NO symptoms at all and just new I was not pregnant. My advice would be prepare for the worse and remind youself everyday, no matter what, this will be worth it when you are holding your baby in your arms. Also they tell you to have sex everyother day, but when we got pregnant we were haveing sex two day on one day off till I was 6 dpo. Good luck, i hope this is it for you and you get it on the first try.
