To keep a murderer in prison?

There are lots of variables that influence it. The answer = too much!

It depends on where they are housed and what state they are in. In New Hampshire, if you are an Inmate it costs $28,000 a year. It doesn't matter if you drove without a license, or are in for drug possession or killed someone. The only time it costs more is if they are in the Psych. Ward.

Every state has a different budget. Also every state will sentence a person differently for the same crime. The Federal Prison will cost more than a State Prison. The budget for each facility is set up differently as well. The cost depends on amount of electricity of the building, capacity and how many Correctional Officers they need per number of inmates, etc.
