Civil War had farming to the South and heavy industry in the North.
Today our heavy industry is pretty much scattered. Car manufacturing is all over the place.
The technology center was California now can be found just about everywhere.
As far as industry goes this nation is in flux and changes as the needs change.
The poorest states have catching on to cut the taxes and bring in companies. As in Alabama that brought in Mercedas Bens.

Populations are shifting from the North East to the Southern states.

In short the old sayings are pretty much dead.

The North industrialized after the civil war while the south is still holding on to their Bibles.Before civil war south was the one calling the shots with their handful Big Fat and Rich Plantation owners and Merchants.

There aren't any real differences. We still outprice ourselves, we're still greedy, and we still have slavery-just not with one particular race over another-now, it involves anyone who is less fortunate than ourselves.
