I don't think any subject is unnecessary as such.

I don't know where you live, but in the UK you get to choose some subjects over others at certain stages in your education.

Studying something you may not like could broaden your mind and introduce you to something you find you actually do like. It's a bit like food, if you don't like a certain type you should still keep trying it, you never know, you might change your mind one day!

It would be interesting to know what you don't think are necessary subjects. Also to see what others consider unnecessary and to see if people generally agree :)

Obviously maths, your first language, preferably a second language, the sciences and sex ed/parenting are all necessary.

I also think things like history, geography, art, computers, sociology, religion and physical education are necessary, not so much for job potential perhaps, depending on the job you want to use, but just for life in general. Not so much in detail, but you do need a sound knowledge of these things :)

To increase your capacity for thinking. To increase your literacy of various subjects. To learn research and problem solving skills that you will help you be more successful in adult life.

because you might find you like it after all. it helps to have a broad base so you can carry on conversations with people
