It depends on what you want to do. The new operating system Vista requires Direct 9x 128meg graphics card but for the future games you will need a Direct 10x graphics card but for windows XP you just need Direct 8x. If you do not want to play games or render video a great way to speed up your computer is with more Ram.

Pretty much anything Nvidia is great. Steer clear of ATi.
