I'm in college, I get this morning and go to the "lunchroom" for breakfast. And there is this young lady by the payphone having sort of a breakdown. Saying she had no way of getting home, and the cab she took broke down, but it was her friends cab, and he wasn't charging her anything. So she couldn't call another cab. So I let her use my cell, no biggie.

She didn't get any of the people she was trying to call, and then she started crying. And I just can't deal with people crying. l'm not a very emotional person. So I suggest, we go to the public saftey people at my college, and see if they could do anything. But they couldn't, so I let her use my cell again, and she calls her boyfriend. And she then starts crying even harder, because for some reason he didn't belive where she was at. So I gave her 20 dollars to catch a cab home. I let her use my phone again. She calls a cab.

She then tells me how the Bf broke her jaw before, and how he was really going to be mad. And how he hasn't hit her in about a month. She then goes on telling how she really loves him. I told she needs to get out and get some help. Ya da Ya da.

So did i do a stupid thing, by giving her the 20 dollars? Because there is this movie coming out this weekend that i really want to see, now I don't have enough and now I'm 20 dollars short.

You seem like a very generous and caring person. Her boyfriend sounds like kind of a jerk for not helping her out.

The only advice i would have to give you is maybe not to be so trusting of people all the time. I am sure she was indeed in trouble and needed help. But, i guess i have been "played" too many times and you just have to be leary of people.

Otherwise, you did the right thing... you helped someone out. If everyone in this world could be like you... i think we might all be a little more caring of each other. It's like pay it forward or something... that's cool... maybe she will do the same thing some day for someone else...

On the Boyfriend thing... it's not gonna matter what anyone says to her... she won't leave until she's ready... so, there's nothing you could have said or done to make her not go back to him. (from personal exp)

Maybe you can get a friend to pay your way... that's what friends are all about... he pays your way this time, you get his next time...

That was extremely selfless of you and your parents must be so proud of you!

It's a thought provoking question that I'm sure can draw responses from both sides of the board. However, I think that you will one day be paid back that $20 and then some. You'll be paid 10x over for your sincere act of generosity.

Thank you for being a good Samaritan. We need more people like you in the world!

No, you did not do the right thing. You gave this young lady $20 to ride back to her house to get beat up by her loser boyfriend.

You essentially allowed her to go and get her jaw broken again. Next time keep your money, dude.

Your just kind hearted, that was very nice of you, she needed help and you were there. Sorry about the movie, maybe someone will end up taking you, since you did a nice gesture, who knows maybe you will be returned with a nice gesture from a friend of yours.
