Can I get in trouble for this?
If me and this one police officer don't exactly like each other (dated back to our high school days).. and i suspect he's been with my girl, and i send him a text message saying, "you better not be messing with me boy" and he replies, "you better be joking because if your not we might have a problem!" now, could i get in trouble for that? he stated he was on duty.

what exactly can i say to a police officer if i have a problem with him? legally

You can't take things in your own hands. I would say that your problem lies with the girlfriend not the officer in the first place. If this person is in fact taking your messages seriously he can report you for harassment. Internet harassment isn't any different than telephone harassment.

As an officer...I would suggest you talk to your girlfriend first. Let her know of your issue and it's time to decide either you or the other guy!

Secondly, if this officer is doing something that creates a problem in the community, you could talk to the police chief!

Third, should you communicate in such a manner that he construes the communication as "harassing"...there is what is known as "Harassing Communication" within most states that you could be arrested for.

Lastly, looking at some "posts" such as one who said his brother was out during curfew and failed to give a real name...if I were the judge, I'd have thrown the case out also. That was an improper charge. He SHOULD have been charged with "Giving False Name to Law Enforcement."

Don't be discouraged...and don't think that just because this person is a police officer that you should not stand up for what is right.

That doesn't sound threatening. You can't say anything threatening to him, but beware, PO are petty tyrants and will throw everything on the books at you. A Police Officer charged my 14 yr old brother for obstruction of justice because my brother was out with his friends (curfew violation) and he gave the guy the wrong name. Judge threw it out and told the police never to do that again. These guys can be idiots.

You're better off dumping your gf if she is fooling around on you. Screw them both, get a new woman.

It sounds like your old rival from high school was a schoolyard bully and he still has that mentality now (and he backs it up with a badge a 9mm pistol and arrest powers). He can retaliate against you because cops have very wide powers. But, you can get at him too - by reporting him and any threats he makes towards you to the Internal Affairs Unit of his department. Also, you can dump your girlfriend, she sounds like a total s**t anyway!

Yes when a officer is in duty and u threaten him,you are asking fer trouble. But as it appears in yer case, the matter is not that serious otherwise he could have already put u in problem. In case u r having any problm with him better contact his higher authorities. But remember, picking up uncalled fer quarrel with a cop is not wise.As regards yer gal,if she is not complaining why should u.

Legally, the only thing you can do is to report him to his superior. Any threats or perceived threats can be used against you, if he wants to take it to the next level: sue you for threatening him, arresting you for threatening a police officer, etc.
Be careful. Police have way too many rights and can cause you serious damage.

Quite frankly, your issue is with "your girl" who, I assume, has free will, a mouth and a command of the English language.... She could just say "no".

Direct your anger where it belongs, bub. The girl owes you the loyalty of the relationship - the officer does not.
