You are not keeping the cage clean. Clean the cage at least twice a week.

Did you know that maggots eat flesh? Your ferrets are in great danger. If you are unable to keep the cage clean then you might want to find them another home.

I used to breed ferrets before they passed a law that requires that they all be spayed/neutered and desented before they are sold. This was 20 maybe 25 years ago.

It depends on the species of fly. Most maggots only eat dead flesh (so would only be a danger if your ferret got an open wound) but one species does eat live flesh and will happily burrow under your ferrets fur and start eating him alive. I once saw a dog who died of the result of this. Very unpleasant way to go.

Clean your ferret's cage, really well. I mean use bleach water and disinfect it. Then give your ferret a bath and take a flea comb to his fur to make sure there aren't any eggs sticking to him. If you keep his cage clean on a regular basis then it shouldn't get that bad.

Why are the maggots in your ferrets cage? This should be the first question you are asking yourself. Would you want to live with maggots, I don't think so, why would you want your pet to live with them. Clean the cage and get rid of them.

With rabbits they get what is called fly strike where the maggots burrow under the skin and infest the animal. If not caught in time it kills the animal. You should be cleaning your ferrets cage at least once a week if not more.

FIRST OFF YOU ARE AN IDIOT!! AND SHOULD BE REPORTED TO THE SPCA!!! your ferrets cage is not that hard to keep clean they poop in a corner and it is easy to just reach in there with a pair of gloves everyday and scoop it out. idiot OMG i just cant believe there are not laws preventing people like you getting pets. THERE SHOULD BE!! and yes maggots can hurt anay animal and if your annimal has an open sore on him the flys can laya there eggs in that sore.. just call SPCA right now on yourself and give those pets a better home. ONE MORE thing i have 5 ferret cages sitting right behind me right now and they get cleaned everyday. EVERY SINGLE DAY!!!

I fyour ferrets have ANY sort of open wound the maggots will get in there to eat. They will eat the dead, infected tissue FIRST....then continue on to eat the healthy tissue. This could kill your ferrets. Get the maggots OUT.
