Let's focus on the typical homophobic insult you might hear talking to a phobe. It's usually a name and it sounds like a 3rd grader made it up, similar to 'booger head' or 'poopy face' only it usually has to do with sex so it's a immaturity and inappropriateness formed into one. For instance, "fudge packer" or "sausage sucker." Why are so many homophobics using names like these? Do they really think they've come up with a good insult? Do they honestly feel they've hurt a gay person's feelings or what? To me, names like that sound like a 76 year old lady's euphemisms because she's too scared to come right out and say exactly what she's referring to. I guess the typical homophobic thinks this is a cruel way to refer to some gay people, when it just sounds like a wimpy euphemism because they don't want to come right out and say it. Maybe they just think they're funny because of the comparison they've made and it's not really meant as an insult. Homophobics, stop it with the lame names!!!

Homo - meaning same
Phobia - meaning fear
Fear of the same.

Aversion to gay or homosexual people or their lifestyle or culture.
Behaviour or an act based on this aversion.
Irrational fear of, aversion to, or discrimination against homosexuality or homosexuals.
Unreasoning fear of or antipathy toward homosexuals and homosexuality.

I.E.
From the typical homophobe’s speeches comes this:
“Homosexuality is a sin, if you’re living a life of sin, you’re going to Hell; Tolerance toward sin is a bad idea too.
It is reported that some homophobes are actually closet homosexuals.

Worst cases include:
Homosexuality is a choice; same-sex marriage could lead to calls for nuptials with goats; God create Adam and Eve and not Adam and Steve (this one is a classic one, I’d rather smash a hammer on my fingers, than hearing that one more time)

If you’ll stick around, you will notice some of the most pathetic samples right here. Not very educated, they have a frightening spelling problem, not very smart either, they keep asking the same stupid questions over and over; multiple yahoo accounts (usually they ask a question using account #1, then they answer using account #2)
They have so much fun, I can almost hear them laughing, for the stupid things they say.

Hope this helps.

omg, I just watched that episode too a second ago on their website before coming here. amazing! Yeah, i'm so sorry your parents said those things, that must be tough for you. My biggest advice would be to talk it out with them. It's normal for people to disagree, especially if they are your parents. My mother is accepting, but even we don't agree with every single thing. You don't have to come out, but you shouldn't allow anyone to push their ideas onto you like that. You shouldn't allow people to make you feel uncomfortable with sharing your views. I can't guarantee that your parents will not forsake their closed-minded views, but the important thing I think you should do regardless is know who you are, stay confident, and keep your head up high.

It's fun to pretend that homophobic is a scientific term, Crabsinyourpants. In reality, it's a loaded term. It assumes that everyone who doesn't like gays is afraid of them. Also, Gaydar assumes that if you are AFRAID of gays, maybe you ARE one!

Hey, I'm afraid of dogs . . . maybe I'm a German Shepard?

Homo"phobic" is an outdated term created out of fable in the 1970s. We've learned a lot since then. The correct term is sexual prejudice, and applies even to prejudice against heterosexuals.

As to the third grade remark, why it sounds like 3rd graders made them up, that's because, as we have seen on Dateline, a lot of homosexuals enjoy talking to third graders.

The level of the questions say far more about the people asking the lame questions than it does of us.

Ignorance. Pure and simple. That's the only excuse for not being tolerant of other's beliefs and/or lifestyles.
