A-Rod would make almost any team better, with the exception of the Marlins and Mets, who already have outstanding, less expensive third basemen. Still, the Yanks might be better off trading him. Not only only would they get salary relief, but they would also very likely get phenomenal young talent in return, both of which seem to be Cashman's goals this offseason. Trading him to the Dodgers might be a good move. They have one of the top farm systems and enough money. The Yanks could get a top five thrid base prospect, Andy LaRoche, and a top five lefty pitching prospect, Clayton Kershaw, in return, along with other young players such as Hong-Chih Kuo, a lefty flamethrower from the same homwtown as Chien-ming Wang, and James Loney. Then, they could spin an outfielder Melky? or a lesser player Brett Gardner?, Kevin Thompson? and a power reliever (Farnsworth or Vizcaino) for the White Sox's Joe Crede, whom they are shopping. These moves would help the Yankees tremendously. They might suffer a little on the offense, but Joe Crede is a slick fielder, and the team will set for the future. Besides, if they keep A-Rod, they run the risk of media problems, a postseason collapse, or, even if he does well, him using his Opt-out clause in his contract to test free agency for a mush bigger deal.

The fans and the media of New York can be so foolish. The Yankees trading A-Rod is a joke. In his three seasons in pinstripes, he has averaged 40 HR and 116 RBI while batting .299 as a Yankee. He can play for my team (Atlanta) any day if he's putting up numbers like that. Yes he's had a history of disappearing in big games, but he did that long before he was a Yankee. The genius Joe Torre did not make his lack of playoff production any better by batting him 8TH in the lineup. If the Yankees part ways with A-Rod, expect a lot of interest in him. And if they do, they'll go buy another big bat and have him swing away and still end up without a World Series Title

It all depends of what you get.
If the Yankees get Santana from the Twins, they made a fair trade. That´s the case, A-rod leaves the twins at the end of the season and, if he wants and the Yanks pay, he can return.
Maybe Zimmerman for the Nationals and... well that team does not have anything more.
Wright for the Mets can be a great option, but the guys from the other side should be crazy if they do something like that.

If the Yankees simply got rid of A-Rod then no, the team would be down a giant bat in its lineup and a gold glove third baseman. If they wanted to trade him, they could acquire a replacement bat (Todd Helton in Colorado for example) but are more likely to look for pitching help in the form of a starter or eventual replacement for Mariano Rivera.
Keep in mind, if A-Rod can endear himself to the Yankees enough to stay with the team, the club has a lot of free publicity coming its way as he begins to near some historic records. He has a very legitimate shot at doing what no player in history has ever done before - be the career leader in Homers, Hits and RBI's.

First, I HATE THE YANKEES!!!!! Now. why is it that every time you yankee fans grab onto one of the games best you automaticaly start gripping about him?! You yankee fans are among the luckiest fans of any sport in the world!! I don't think a whole heck of a lot of George, but it seems to me anytime your team needs someone to better thier chances of winning, he opens his checkbook. So, I guess what I'm trying to say is, quit gripping and be grateful for what you have!! Enjoy your season!! Watch, A-rod will hit .330 with 50 HR and 150 RBI and you will say what a great job old George did in picking him up!!!

Other teams should shy away from a guy like A-Rod. He can only bat 4 or 5 times per game. A team could get 4 or 5 good players for the same money and they would bat 16 to 20 times per game.

A-rod is one of the best in the game. You will not get better value via trade for him. Letting him go would be crazy.

A-Rod is an overrated drama queen and not worth that fat contract the Rangers were stupid enough to toss in front of him. He's a joke...

You're forgetting that hes averaged over 35 HR's per year and has driven in over 120 RBI's per year. I'd take him over anybody out there. He's one year removed from being the MVP. He had a bad year last year and hasn't been performing too well in the postseason for us but look to this year as his coming out. He has lots going on in terms of opting out of his contract or renegotiating it so he going to have a big year. This is our year.

Err, you got it backwards. The Yankees need to get rid of Jeter so that the best SS in the game can play SS.
