I'm black and when my friends and i use that word, it slang. Just like many friends call themselves names like a** hole or idiot, i hear it all the time in school. When blacks use the n word its the same.
I know white people like to use a lot of our slang and Ebonics but this is one word they can't have! Its like an inside joke that white people aren't in, and hopefully will never be in. I get annoyed when white people ask me why they can't say it for fun too. Because of the way your ancestor used the word (and some still do), you lose your right to the word, accept it.

Black people using the n-word is just for fun, and i know the history of the word but for some reason it doesn't feel derogatory when my black friends call me a n*****.

I am white, and I do not care WHO uses it, it is disgusting and vulgar.

Same with the word RETARD that is bandied about by so many these days.

I am still trying to figure out when it became acceptable to disrespect someone on a continuous basis.

To me, any of this behavior is unacceptable and even though i am constantly called old-fashioned (I am 30), I believe that ALL should be treated in a respectable manner, no matter who you are.

Well when blacks use it, it is usually in a friendly manner. Its like sayin hey man, wussup my friend ect. And between black people we know it means no harm. But with white people its not good, because that was a term used back in slavery days to disrespect. Even if the white person doesn't mean nothin by it. Thats a no no for white people and they shouldn't say it. It should be like that for everybody but thats not how it goes. But i wouldn't smack a black person up for that, because its already understood amongst us.

The use of the word is as diverse as the people using it. What blacks mean differ from what any other people mean when they say it. Whites arent the only ones who use that word derogatorily. Indians (dot) are just as biased. By the way ..... do you know much black history? Check it out.

It doesn't matter If your black or white, I think using the word is racist no matter what race you are. I think black people are putting down other black people when they use the word. When a person of another race uses It, It's also putting down black people.
No one should say that word.

The only blacks that I use that word for, are the ones
who chose not to assimilate! Get over it ,or get a word that
pisses every white boy off, and can't be used in public!
Invent a new slander for whitey!

Good for you dude! I never understood it....whites get in big trouble over doing things that blacks might do alllll the time.....when neither one should be doing it in the first place....good point.

Ummmm listen up! Black folks that use that word are ALLOWING all people to use that word. That's all it is. No one should use it. It should be erased. Black folks are the ones keeping it alive, though. That is our problem .... :(
