If your computer does not have usb2 ports it is possible to buy a separate card which invariably comes with 4 ports. It is easy to fit or if you are not that confident yourself then for a small fee the shop that supplies the card will fit it for you. I paid £10.00 for my usb2 card and £5.00 for the fitting. Less than ten minutes in the shop and continued custom for a very satisfied customer.

USB 2 cards are available from most half-decent computer stores or mail order from people like Novatech http://www.novatech.co.uk.
These fit into a spare PCI slot on your machine. If you're using Windows XP then it will recognise the new card as soon as you boot up and it will show up on Device Manager. If you don't XP then you may have to download a USB 2 driver from the card maker's web site, Microsoft or the disc if came with one.

They cost up to £12 + postage depending on how many ports you have on the card, usually 2 or 4.

Always use an anti-static wrist strap when working inside your computer. Buy one when you order your card, they're cheap and could save you from potential component failure.

no ned to be sorry...

i take it u pc is a desktop as opposed to a laptop?

go to ur locale PC store and ask for a USB PCI card. then;

- Turn off ur computer and unplug the cord
- Open the PC, remove the hard shell
- look for an open PCI slot
- plug in the new PCI USB card w/the screw on it!
- put everything back together, reboot
- if ur running XP OS, then ur good to go
- if ur running legacy OS (98 or ME or ??) then insert the CD that came with ur new PCI card and follow the intallation wizzard.

scale (1-10 on difficulty; ~3)

*IF* your Desktop computer never had USB 2.0 and you want to ADD it here's a link for a card that goes in a PCI Slot and gives you 5 USB 2.0 connections for only $5.99

I have installed several in friend's computers and they work great.

you need a computer with USB 2.0 ports on it, they aren't just a software upgrade although you will need USB 2.0 drivers to run them correctly.

Download drivers from your motherboard manufacturer's web site. But, if it still is 1.0 or 1.1, you will need to get a new motherboard to get 2.0.
