off course not, and do u know why?
it is because, i can here my existence from voice of a friend.
if u be alone, u never will grow as u should be, because most of our growing is because of our relationships.
some part of us will grow even with bad people.

This was my first duty station and my last duty station. It's a great place to live. You will both be working, that's for sure. Why Hilo though? That's a huge change from California. I don't think that would work. When you are ready to retire move to Hilo. Unless you grew up in Hawaii, that would be a hard to place to live. Prices here are about the same as San Fran for housing and I would say 25% more for food. Probably 30% higher than LA overall. Get out of California! I left there in 1980 and would never move back.

Ah, the life of a hermit, recluse, cloister, anchoress - whatever term you want to apply to it. Since very few people are comfortable being alone for any length of time, I suspect very few people will answer your question "yes"...
Most people historically who have chosen a life of seclusion or solitude have done so to develop a closer, deeper understanding of their faith and a more intimate relationship with their creator (whatever their belief structure is). Historically these people were not giving up access to instant worldwide communication, either. They were simply closing themselves away from whatever tiny sphere of the world they lived in.
I would do it, but I understand that there are times it would be very difficult - even more so in an age where we are members of the global village.

Yes, as long as I had food, shelter, a comfortable place to sleep and books, paper and a pen I could live quite well on my own. This is my favorite day dream - alone and relaxed reading, drawing, exploring - no nagging and social pressure. Yes - I could do it.

ALONE, you say? Crud, I almost went. No, I'll stay with what I've got going now. Even at the end of my days, I hope somebody'll be there to see me off . . .

No I wouldn't, because I'd rather starve to death then not have my friends around.
