I'm planning a sponsored walk to school one day in the summer to raise money for charity. I did a sponsored cycle last year but this time am going to take it one step further.

I'm seeing most folks here saying roughly 3 hours, but if you don't do a lot of walking, you probably will not maintain a 3 mph to 4 mph pace. You'll probably start that fast, but you will be dragging the last few miles. I'm guessing you will need 4 to 5 hours.

Walking pace is usually reckoned to be 4 miles an hour, so a 10 mile walk will take 2 and a half hours, approximately.

It should take you approx 3 to 4 hours.
The average person walks between 2 1/2 and 3 1/2 miles per hour.

Good luck and don't forget to drink plenty of water if it is a hot day!

At a steady pace you can walk a mile in between 8 - 18 minutes. So it would take between 2h30m - 3h40m. But you must remember to take at least a litre and half of water or you'll get dehydrated before you get past 6miles

I would say at least 3 hours.
We did 6 miles in 2 hours 15 mins on the way to school when the bus didn't turn up.

About 3 hours not counting rest stops - average walking pace is 3-4mph

Baseline Theory: Given the average adult with a casual stride of 1.5 feet per step, at a rate of one step per second.

This would equal .9777 minutes, or rounded off, about 10 minutes a mile. So, 10 miles times 10 minutes? About 1 hour and 40 minutes to complete the 10 mile walk.

Variables:

A faster stride will shorten the time exponentially.
A person stride length, shorter strides add time, longer strids will decrease the time.

Cheers!
