I live in the Bay Area. Biased, I know, but I really think this is the best place on earth - and I was raised all over SE Asia...

If you live in the SF area, it is the only place on earth where you can go surfing and snowboarding in the same day, within hours of each other, both in natural terrain. (You can do the same in other places, but its not real terrain or real snow, etc.) Im a motorcyclist - we have some of the greatest roads around, twisting through the wine valleys of Napa. And, pretty much great weather (other than the pissing out rain today!)

I'd say either the Bay Area or San Diego. I am biased though too just like Lisa H for the same reasons. I was born and raised in the Bay Area, Walnut Creek as well! And I moved to San Diego for college six years ago and stayed down here after I graduated. I love both places, Bay Area is great b/c there are so many things to do, going out to the city is fun, the scenery is awesome. I love San Diego too b/c it has a young, laid back vibe and the weather and scenery are amazing. There is always something to do and going on. People are friendly and it has the best and warmest beaches on the West Coast.

I have lived in Campbell, San Jose, Redwood City, Yuba City, Auburn, Monterey and Fresno. I have visited many different areas throughout the state. Each area has something different to offer.

If I could live anywhere (and I had plenty of money) I would say Atherton or Los Altos. They are both nice towns, not as crowded as many other areas, within an hour drive of SF and Santa Cruz, most of the homes have a large front and back yard (something you don't get in SF, SJ, LA or any other big city) and they have great outdoor areas such as walking and biking paths.

Paradise, Ca. near Chico. Small town, up in the mountains, beautiful and near Lake Oroville.

Jamestown, Sonora area, Dunsmuir, Trinity Alps, Hat Creek, Quincey area. I was born and raised in Richmond then moved to El Sobrante in 1960. It was a good place to grow up at the time but the way things are now I would rather be out away from the hustle bustle and crime.

i concur with previous posting about the SF Bay Area. I am biased as well since I grew up in east bay in walnut creek and currently live in napa wine country.

as second favorite, the san luis obispo area. Morro Bay is nice, but SLO is an awesome college town. And again, am biased since I spend 5 years of college there. Great weather, great family environment. And and coming wine area.
