I agree - they're all so samey now. You can't beat an old mark I Granada, or even better a Rover P4/5 V8, or Mexico Escort, Mark I Cortina - classics

I certainly agree with you, but today's imposed safety rules on car manufacturers dictate that features are included in the build which are hard to design differently therefore similarity in appearance between marques is inevitable. Economy also becomes important for manufacturers for if they did manage to alter designs and still stay within the rules the cost of their products would escalate thus increasing prices to the buyer. All of this is further complicated by the fact that so many vehicles under different manufacturers names are basically the same as other offerings from within the group or just sold under a different marque name to fill a gap in a product range.
I assume that by stating the 80's you are a fairly young person, I would be inclined to add another 20 years to that age and state that the 60's were the most exciting for car design.
